POSITION SUMMARY:

In compliance with Board policies and procedures, this position is responsible for the development of data analysis plans, to conduct advanced qualitative and quantitative statistical analysis and to draft research reports to help support the effective system and school use of data for planning, decision making and policy direction.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To develop data analysis plans and databases for complex research projects; manage and maintain large datasets.
  • To perform rigorous quality control checks on work products to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • To conduct advanced qualitative and quantitative data analysis, including multivariate testing, data mining, multilevel modeling, latent variable modeling and various regression models.
  • To gather, analyze and interpret data at the school, family of schools, board, community, regional and provincial levels for planning and decision-making.
  • To retrieve and analyze data from provincial and national surveys to enhance or further the understanding of issues that relate to the York Region District School Board and our stakeholders.
  • To develop and prepare research findings reports, manuscripts and research proposals; conduct reviews of research literature, current educational research and identify implications.
  • To prepare presentations, data visualizations and share research findings to a variety of audiences, internal and external.
  • To create, select and/or modify evaluation measures.
  • To assist in designing school and system-wide surveys for various stakeholders.
  • To collaborate with team members, internal and external stakeholders.
  • To perform other duties as assigned.

LINE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Reports to the Manager, Research Services.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A four-year university degree in Statistics or related social sciences discipline, including graduate level training in research methods and statistics, or equivalent, as approved by the Board, is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in a research environment is required.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in research design and methodology for advanced qualitative and quantitative research and analytics; high level of proficiency in statistical analysis, quantitative analytics, multivariate testing, data mining, multilevel modeling, latent variable modeling and various regression models are required.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing high quality research reports, manuscripts and research proposals are required.
  • Excellent time management, ability to work under tight timelines, oral and written communication and presentation skills with attention to detail are required.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario curriculum, teaching models and current resources and documents.
  • Good working knowledge of SPSS, Power BI, R, SQL Server, Python, Qualtrics, EndNote, NVivo, Qlikview, GIS software, Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Word are required.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills for coordinating multiple ongoing projects are required.
  • Ability to work as a part of a team and independently as well as high interpersonal skills/diplomacy are required.
